Franke Honors College Agave Knowledge Exchange

Students with Leadership from Drs. Caitlyn Hall and Nadia Alvarez Mexia will establish the 90 minute Agave Heritage Knowledge Exchange event ahead of the Agave Fiesta showcasing students’ research about Environmental Sustainability, Gender Equity and Leadership, and Community Development and Resilience.

Presentation Topics:

Environmental Sustainability:
Student exhibitions will focus on fostering a resilient ecosystem, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices that address the impacts of climate change and preserve the multifaceted role of agave in maintaining ecological balance and cultural heritage.

Gender Equity and Leadership:
Students will share on increasing recognition and empowerment of pioneering women in the agave industry, who are reshaping the industry and creating inclusive and diverse spaces to share experiences, knowledge, and legacy.

Community Development and Resilience
Students will present on leveraging agave as a tool for building community strength, emphasizing local and Indigenous perspectives, enhancing diversity, fostering intercultural and economic connections, and supporting sustainable livelihoods.
