Mission and Vision

To celebrate and sustain the cultural, ecological, and economic significance of agave through binational collaboration, storytelling, and community-rooted experiences.

We bring together voices from the Sonoran Desert and beyond to honor agave’s legacy and ignite collective action for a more resilient future.

  • Rooted in the Sonoran Desert, the Agave Heritage Festival fosters partnerships across borders connecting communities in Arizona and northern Mexico. We honor the region’s shared history and work collectively to support agave growers, cultural leaders, researchers, and advocates on both sides of the border. Together, we strengthen resilience through cooperation, knowledge exchange, and respect for place.

  • Agave is a keystone of desert ecology. We aim to model for sustainable living in arid lands. Through education, ecological restoration, and support for bat-friendly agave practices, we promote conservation strategies that protect biodiversity, restore habitat, and build climate resilience across the borderlands.

  • From ancestral farming techniques to ceremonial uses, agave holds deep cultural significance for Indigenous and local communities. We uplift these traditions by creating spaces for intergenerational learning, honoring Indigenous knowledge systems, and celebrating the people who have long stewarded this plant and its stories.

  • Agave inspires a rich creative landscape spanning culinary innovation, visual arts, performance, and storytelling. The festival showcases artists and makers whose work brings agave to life in new and traditional forms, weaving art into the cultural and ecological fabric of the Sonoran Desert.

  • The Agave Heritage Festival is more than an event - it’s a collective movement. Through year-round partnerships with educators, community organizers, Indigenous leaders, and cultural practitioners, we extend our impact beyond the Sonoran Desert. Whether in rural towns, border cities, or international forums, we’re building relationships that elevate local voices, foster stewardship, and reimagine how culture, science, and policy can work together for shared resilience.

  • Agave is at the heart of culinary tradition and innovation. From ancestral fermentation to modern mixology, we celebrate the full spectrum of agave-based food and spirits. Our dinners, tastings, and workshops spotlight producers, chefs, and maestros who carry forward centuries-old practices while crafting the future of flavor responsibly and regeneratively.
